about me:

My name is Caroline Lauenstein, I am a mother of three grown-up children and I worked as a make-up artist in the theater in Hamburg. In 1999, my husband and I moved to Bavaria with our children and I fell in love with traditional costume fabrics.

I had a wish for myself: a traditional skirt that was modern and, above all, comfortable – but that I could also wear anytime and anywhere. I’ve always enjoyed trying my hand at things and that’s how my first skirt came about. I was so taken with it that I said to my husband in my euphoria: “I don’t want to do anything else!”

I had started an intense hobby: Suddenly everyone wanted to be able to wear my skirt model and, without really having planned it, I had laid the foundation for ROCKMACHERIN. I am now the managing director of an organically growing company with 5 employees. We love fashion that feels like home without being too folksy. We love craftsmanship and details and we love materials, colors and patterns.

With this passion, we produce fair and individual clothing that is sophisticated and contemporary and now includes more than just skirts – and also works wonderfully outside of Bavaria.

Press & Media

I am Rockmacherin – a passionate designer, founder and entrepreneur.
What began as a heartfelt project with a needle, thread and a lot of gut feeling is now a successful fashion label between tradition and zeitgeist: handmade fashion with character, made in Bavaria and in the EU, worn by women who value authenticity.

I am happy to share my experiences, thoughts and visions in interviews, reports and portraits – be it about my unusual path into the fashion world, my attitude to sustainability or the special connection between modern traditional costume and personal style.

  • From hobby to entrepreneur: How I went my own way with “Fashion made in Bavaria” – despite many hurdles

  • An unusual way: Why a woman from Hamburg (North of Germany) designs modern traditional costumes from Bavaria

  • Visionary without prior knowledge: From fashion newcomer to sustainability ambassador

  • „I had no idea about the fashion industry – and I built a successful, sustainable label.“

  • Oktoberfest without a dirndl? Modern, elegant country house fashion – far removed from dusty traditional costume – not only at the Oktoberfest

  • Fair & sustainable: The philosophy behind our collections

  • Tradition meets modernity: How we reinterpret traditional skirts, cardigans & co.

  • The personal touch: Why I, as a Hamburg native, am rethinking modern traditional costume
